Undergraduate Apartments: Winter 2021 Move In

We look forward to welcoming you to the University Apartments this winter! As one of the many students who will be living with us in our apartments this year, we hope that you are excited to join our community of scholars!

MOVE-IN INFORMATION: Move-In will take place from  January 15-18th, 2021.  We cannot accommodate early move in requests before these dates as the buildings will not be prepared for residency.  

COVID-19 MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR UCSB STUDENTS LIVING IN CAMPUS HOUSING

BEFORE ARRIVAL: 

  • Daily symptom monitoring through the Student Health Daily COVID-19 Symptom Screening survey required beginning 10 days prior to arrival and every day thereafter. (This will be emailed to all students moving in.)
  • Please consider enrolling in the UCSB confidential COVID-19 exposure app through your cell phone; see information at https://canotify.uchealth.edu/ucsb/
 
FLU SHOTS are required by order of the UC Office of the President for all persons on campus. Please ATTEST that you have received your influenza vaccination on the SHS website at https://studenthealthoc.sa.ucsb.edu/login_dualauthentication.aspx. No student who has symptoms of COVID-19 should travel to campus; you should seek medical care at home and ensure you do not have COVID-19 before departure.

UPON ARRIVAL: Obtain a COVID-19 test on campus immediately, available at no charge to students living on campus. Getting tested should be one of the first things you do.  (Further information on how to schedule this appointment at our campus testing sites will be emailed to you.)

AFTER ARRIVAL: 

  • SEQUESTER in your room (leaving only for essential activities) for at least 7 days.  In person social interactions should be minimal to none. 
  • Obtain a second COVID-19 test on campus after 7 days, available at no charge to students living on campus. 
  • Follow our campus COVID-19 mitigation measures:
  • Always wear face coverings in public
  • Maintain appropriate physical distance from others
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Observe all public health orders, including the prohibition of social gatherings beyond those in your immediate household

REGULAR TESTING THEREAFTER: Minimally, weekly testing after arrival or on a schedule to be determined BY CAMPUS. (COVID testing is provided for students living on campus, funded by the University.) Campus is considering twice weekly testing.

Please remember that you MUST sign up for an appointment to either:

  • Be tested for COVID upon arrival
  • OR submit verification of a negative COVID test result (test taken within 7 days of arrival)
    • These residents will receive a waiver from the Covid-19 Response Team at the testing site. 

NOTE: If you received a positive COVID test result within 10-90 days prior to arrival, please bring verification of your results to your testing appointment  

Key Pick Up Instructions for Sierra Madre:

  • Go to the Sierra Madre Villages Office (555 Storke Rd, Goleta, CA 93117) to pick up your apartment key. 
  • The Sierra Madre Villages Office will be open on Friday, January 15th - Monday January 18th from 9AM - 5PM, Please be sure to arrive at your scheduled move-in time.
    • If arriving after the 18th, please see below for the Sierra Madre Villages Office regular business hours.

Key Pick Up Instructions for San Joaquin:

  • Go to the Sierra Madre Villages Office (555 Storke Rd, Goleta, CA 93117) to pick up your apartment key. 
  • Once you have checked in and picked up your key, go to the San Joaquin Villages Apartment Complex (650 Storke Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93106) to unload your belongings. Here is a map of the San Joaquin Apartment Complex.
    More detailed information about designated parking and unloading zones will be provided via email upon return from Winter Break.
  • The Sierra Madre Villages Office will be open on Friday, January 15th - Monday January 18th from 9AM - 5PM, Please be sure to arrive at your scheduled move-in time.

Key Pick Up Instructions for Santa Ynez, Westgate & El Dorado:

  • Go to the Santa Ynez Apartment Office (6750 El Colegio Road) to pick up your apartment key. 
  • The Santa Ynez Apartment Office will be open on Friday, January 15th - Monday January 18th from 9AM - 5PM, Please be sure to arrive at your scheduled move-in time.
    • If arriving after the 18th, please see below for the Santa Ynez Office regular business hours

All Areas:

  • In order to receive your apartment keys, you MUST show verification of having cleared a COVID testing site on campus OR that you have scheduled a testing appointment to take place within the next 24 hours
  • You will need your Driver's License or other form of identification
  • Access Cards will also be available for pick up
If you cannot provide confirmation of having cleared the testing site OR that you have scheduled a testing appointment, you will not be given a key, and you will need to make other arrangements for accommodations until you have scheduled an appointment.
   
The Sierra Madre Villages Office business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (closed 12-1).  Weekend, holiday, and after hours assistance is available from 10:00AM-8:00PM by calling 805-869-3899.
The Santa Ynez Apartment Office business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (closed 12-1).  Weekend, holiday, and after hours assistance is available from 10:00AM-8:00PM by calling 805-451-1470.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where is my room or unit?
    • Please check the Undergraduate Apartments (Hall/Complex Layout) map to find your unit's location. When viewing the map please note that most buildings are more than one story tall so a unit above a first floor unit will have the second digit in the unit number replaced with a 2 or a 3 depending on the floor it's on (Example: the unit above unit 2102, is 2202, and above that is 2302). 
  • Where do I park to unload & move in?
    • You will be directed to short term unloading when you pick up your keys.
  • What do I do if I'm locked out of my apartment?
    • Apartment office are open Monday-Friday 8:00am -5:00pm (closed 12:00pm - 1:00pm). If you need assistance after 5 pm or on weekends, please call the RA On-Call.
  • What should I bring?

    • All apartments are fully furnished
    • We recommend that residents reach out to their roommates to coordinate what they are going to bring to the apartment to allow residents to maximize the space in their units. However, at a minimum, in addition to clothing and personal items each resident should bring: Pillow & pillowcase; Sheets & mattress cover (beds are extra large twin size); Blankets; Towels; Toiletries; a Thermometer, Headphones, a Lawn Chair for outdoor social distancing meetings 
    • Standard appliances are provided in apartment kitchens, but it's up to you to coordinate with your roommates as to exactly what kind of cooking equipment, plates, bowls, silverware, (microwave for Santa Ynez Residents) etc. you may want to bring to maximize your storage space.  
    • Also make a plan to bring items to keep your spaces clean and tidy.
    • if you're planning to work on-campus, or anywhere in the local area, you will need to have original documentation to verify your eligibility to work; see these links for more information US Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) acceptable documents and Employment Eligibility Verification form (see page 3). 
    • Please do NOT bring items such as: Explosives; firearms or other weapons; Illegal drugs or alcohol; Empty alcohol containers as decorations; Torchiere-style (floor lamps), halogen, or incandescent lamps; Waterbeds; Pets (no unapproved pets allowed in buildings at any time, especially during Move-In Weekend.)

Connecting to Eduroam (WiFi)
When prompted for a username, type YourNetID@ ucsb.edu. The @ucsb.edu is required, or the login will not work. For the password, use your NetID password. Move-In Condition Form & Work Requests
We strongly recommend that you inspect your room at move-in and report any pre-existing damage to avoid charges at move-out. To file a report go to: https://www.housing.ucsb.edu/get-it-fixed and click on the button labeled Move-In Condition Form. If you do not submit a form within 72 hours of checking in, you accept the space as is and assume liability for the condition of your unit. To submit work request throughout the year go to: https://www.housing.ucsb.edu/get-it-fixed and click "something in my residence".

Parking
A valid parking permit is mandatory for all vehicles parked in our Residential & Community Living areas.
