As you may have already noticed, a new UCSB Housing Project is underway on Storke Road near the West Campus Apartments. The Sierra Madre Apartments will provide housing for 515 students in 115 apartments that will be double occupancy 3-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 1-bedroom apartments. The remaining 36 units will use the same unit types, but will be leased as single units to UCSB faculty and staff families. True to UCSB’s commitment to the environment, Sierra Madre has been designed to exceed the LEED Gold standards. It will be much more than the typical apartment complex; we’re building a community fully equipped with a central commons space to support study, lounge, dining and recreation activities. It is anticipated that this complex will open in Fall 2015.
During the construction phase UCSB and Housing & Residential Services will be working closely with the contractor to minimize the impact of the West Campus community. For more information, check in with the West Campus Office during business hours (M-F, 8am-noon), and we will work to get questions and concerns addressed by the appropriate entity. We will also post updates on our blog: http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/projects-blog. We thank you for your patience as this project gets underway.
