Today I thought I would share one of my favorite breakfast creations. I am a fan of oats, so I usually incorporate oats into my breakfast somehow.
1 cup low fat plain yogurt
1/2 cup quick oats
1 tablespoon of dried blueberries
1 tablespoon pomegranate seeds
1 tablespoon walnuts
Sometimes I will also add cinnamon, hemp seeds, ground flax seeds and other spices
Just mix everything together. The quick oats don’t need to be cooked prior to eating because the yogurt is enough to make them soft and delicious.
Not only does this breakfast taste delicious it is also packed with nutrition. Here are the benefits of each ingredient:
• Combining oats and dairy provide protein, fiber, and nine key nutrients including calcium, vitamin D, potassium and six other nutrients.
• The blueberry has the highest amount of antioxidants of any fruit. One cup delivers about 14% of the recommended daily dose of fiber and nearly a quarter of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
• Pomegranate seeds are also packed with antioxidants that fight off free radicals, keeping your heart healthy and reduces your risk of cancer.
• Walnuts are a unique nut because they are predominantly composed of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) rather than monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). Walnuts are the only nut that contains a significant amount of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids. A one-ounce serving of walnuts provides you with 18 grams of total fat (good fat) of which 13 grams are PUFA and 2.5 grams are ALA. The walnut also offers other health-promoting nutrients.
