COVID COMMUNICATION CHANNELS: As the coronavirus pandemic continues, HDAE will be relying heavily on communicating electronically via HomeBase, The Compass staff newsletter, and video updates. To log on to HomeBase, our staff intranet, use your work email address ending with @ucsb.edu and your UCSBnetID password. CONGRATULATIONS! Campus Dining Director, Jill Horst, received the 2020 NACUFS Regional Director’s Distinguished Service Award for the Pacific Region. She was recognized for her outstanding contribution to the foodservice industry and to the National Association of College and University Food Service professional organization... Marian Bankins has been selected to be the Interim Director of Residential & Community Living. Marian brings a wealth of experience to this role and will add tremendous value to the HDAE senior leadership team. Congratulations Jill & Marian! 

    

FITNESS FOR YOUR MIND, BODY & SPIRIT! The Department of Recreation is offering their first-ever step challenge: Step Up Your Summer - Healthy Living Challenge! This free two week event focuses on physical health, and features wellness challenges. Learn tools to live a healthy life and compete with your colleagues! This challenge is open to all UCSB students, staff, faculty, and community members. Register on Shoreline... Are you looking for ways to meditate, sleep better, reduce stress, and/or calm your body? The UCLA Mindful App is free and it has Spanish options.

                                      

SENIORS SEEKING PENPALS: After 4+ months of being unable to have regular visitors due to the coronavirus pandemic, seniors are using pen and paper (or email) to safely meet and communicate with new friends. If you’re interested in lifting someone’s spirits, Reachout America’s Pen Pal message board is a great way to connect.
 
FREE SUMMER CINEMA: UCSB Arts & Lectures is bringing some of the best sports movies ever made to the West Wind Drive-in in Goleta. Movies will be shown all summer long.
