RE:       Sierra Madre Apartments for Staff

I am happy to announce that construction of the Sierra Madre Apartments for faculty and staff is complete and units will be ready for occupancy beginning on March 1st.  The addition of this apartment complex is part of the campus’ Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP), and will provide an additional housing option for the growing faculty and staff associated with our planned enrollment growth.

Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Services (HDAE) has been asked to manage the property, and has been working closely with campus leadership to finalize the eligibility requirements and other elements of this program.  Some general information on the property and the program is provided below:

Sierra Madre Apartments

The Property:  Thirty-five apartments located on the corner of Storke Road and Whittier Drive.  The units are approximately 900-1,200 square feet in size, and have either two-bedrooms/two-baths (28 units) or three-bedrooms/two baths (seven units).

Eligibility:  Eligibility for the staff apartments (target 50 percent of the units) will be to all full-time career staff.  Because we expect high demand for these units, there will be a lottery process managed by HDAE.

Rent:  The monthly rent will be $2,100 per month for two-bedroom units and $2,250 for three-bedroom units.  The rent levels have been set 10-20 percent below comparable market rates.  The monthly rent will include water, gas, sewer, and trash service utilities.

Other:  Month-to-month lease; no pets; no smoking; one month security deposit.

Open House:  An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th for anyone interested in touring the property. The open house will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  A reminder announcement with additional details will be sent prior to that date.

Lottery Process:  All staff interested in the lottery process should click here: to submit a short interest form by Friday, February 19th at 5:00 pm.  Please note that there are no current interest or waiting lists, so you must fill out the interest form to be eligible for the lottery.  During the week of February 22nd, HDAE will hold the lottery and notify those staff members selected to begin the rental application process.
