| Why Cable Modems? |

| When ResNet service was
installed at Storke and West Campus apartments, it was
not feasible to install the standard ethernet connectivity
due to the building layout. Cable modem technology operates
over existing coaxial cable was determined to be the best
solution. |

| How fast is my cable modem
service? |
- ResNet users share a 500+Mbps link to the Internet and a 1Gbps link to the UCSB campus network
- Performance increases dramatically when on-campus
residents are gone (e.g.: Winter Break, Spring Break)

| How do I tell if my cable modem is working? |
- Motorola Cable Modems: look at the light marked "cable". It should be on solid. If it is flashing
or not lit, contact the ResNet cable modem hotline at 893-7376.
