We are very excited to announce that the San Joaquin Apartments & Portola Dining Commons project will start in early January. For those of you who have yet to hear about the project, there are 3-main areas of development around Santa Catalina:
- Four Villages of 3-story apartments and community buildings that will be built on the empty parking lot to the north.
- Two 6-story Towers along Storke Road with top-floor terraces that overlook a central plaza of courtyards, open space, and a Market with local and sustainable grocery options.
- A new Portola Dining Commons built along El Colegio Road at the east end of the project site, which will include a large outdoor patio that has mountain views overlooking the pool area.
Overall, the project will build 178 apartments that provide housing for 1,003 students, live-in staff, as well as 4 faculty-in-residence apartments. The first phase of the project will be the mass excavation and grading for all underground utilities and the construction of a new staff parking lot west of Storke Road that is scheduled to open in March of 2015. A select number of parking spaces for drop-off/loading and service vehicles will be set aside adjacent to Santa Catalina throughout the project, and student parking permits are valid in either Lot 30 or 38 according to the indication on the permit.
Work hours for the contractor will be 8AM – 5PM Monday thru Friday, and notification will be given in advance for any night or weekend work that becomes necessary.
