| One successful way to build partnerships
is to accomplish tasks through work groups. Work groups bring together
staff from various units within H&RS, as well as staff from across
campus, to draw upon the expertise of those who can best resolve problems.
Below are examples of several work groups that operated successfully
this year. |

- In Apartment & Community Living, a Playground Committee
comprised of Family Student Housing (FSH) staff and residents
and members of the Grounds department saw to the completion of
the new playground.
- The Tenants Association joined with the Apartment Living
and FSH staff in planning logistics for the Storke renovation.
- When swallows and other critters became a concern
in Family Student Housing, members of the Tenants Association,
FSH staff, and Residential Operations negotiated resolutions that
would meet the needs of groups who wanted to protect the critters
as well as those who were being negatively affected by the critters.
- A group comprised of Single Student Apartment (SSA) student
staff, University Police, the Community Service Organization (CSO)
and Parking Services resolved concerns about parking in the SSA
area.
- Residential Dining Services, Business Services, Information
Systems and the UCen Marketing staff worked together to evaluate
current dining access and implement several improvements, including
installation of new ACCESS card swiping units. This collaborative
effort dramatically increased efficiency, stability of the system
and ultimately customer satisfaction.
- The Convocation planning committee continued a history of collaboration
between Student Affairs and H&RS staff. Many faculty and administrators
from around campus were also included in this effort.
- All divisions and departments worked together to provide tremendous
service to students and parents during Move-In Day. The day was
a resounding success as Residential Life, Parking Services, Dining
Services, and all of the Operations departments made intensive
preparations for the addition of Manzanita Village to the move-in
process. The excitement and cohesiveness was evident as everyone
pitched in.
