Operations:
  • Held second annual custodial retreat entitled “Dealing with Change” to focus on better communication and trust. Staff were empowered to take part in more decisions and problem-solving that affect all areas of Residential Operations.

  • Recruited and hired 25 employees for Francisco Torres, the San Rafael Tower and other areas throughout the custodial department. Employees from different areas of Residential Operations rearranged their work schedule to conduct interviews, while teammates in their work area filled in and helped them get their daily tasks completed.

  • Worked collaboratively with Residential Life, Parking Services and all units within Residential Operation for Opening Day, which included Manzanita Village for the first time. The excitement and cohesiveness was evident as everyone worked together to provide tremendous service to students and parents.

  • Developed and implemented Phase I of the Senior Building Maintenance Worker inventory process.

  • Established weekly team meetings with Family Student Housing (FSH) to develop better understanding of roles and increase attention to FSH tenant issues.

  • Streamlined the “fingerprinting” process for new employees in partnership with Human Resources and the Residential Operations administrative staff.

  • Implemented a computerized time reporting system for more than 100 summer employees.

  • Increased diversity within our management team, through recruitment and hiring efforts.

  • Remodeled San Rafael Towers with a new fire alarm system, sprinklers, windows, seismic strengthening and furnishings.

  • Continued facilities improvements that included major repairs to the Storke/Santa Ynez wooden bridge, replastering of Carrillo pool, and a minor remodel of Westgate (with new windows, resurfaced parking lot, new blinds and interior painting).

  • Held weekly team meeting with off-campus operations, Family Student Housing and Apartment Living Staff. A stronger and more effective partnership was built, which enhanced our attention to issues and problems that affect the tenants in FSH.
  •
    Campus Conference Services:
  • Documented and initiated policies and developed procedures for room scheduling with the assistance of Information Systems.

  • Implemented technological advances, including on-line conference registration, wireless credit card processing, and an on-line student time card system.
