| After six years of offering the Year
1 experience and graduating approximately 160 people, Housing
& Residential Services Professional Competency Committee decided
to develop a Year 2 program in order to support our value
for continuous learning and growth. During 2002-03, the
Professional Competency program consisted of the development of the
Year 2 track. A pilot program was kicked off during Spring 2002 that
led to the development of this years program.
The Year 2 program was offered to three different groups of graduates.
A supervisory graduate program was offered, as well as a Program
Manager group and Directors group, with 29 graduates. Based
on the themes of personal responsibility and self-accountability,
the Professional Competency Year 2 program was met with much success.
Group and individual work based on identifying personal and professional
goals, supplemented with personal coaching sessions, served as the
framework and foundation of the Year 2 program. The selection of
the facilitator and consultant for this program was vital to the
overall success of the experience. Steve Dewart from Orion West
Consulting Company served as an excellent leader and resource for
our Year 2 process.
Our next initiative for the Professional Competency program is
the development of a bi-lingual and Spanish speaking curriculum.
The research and design process was accomplished throughout 2002-03
and has resulted in the Leadership Development curriculum offered
through Performance Development Solutions. This program will be
offered as a new Year 1 experience for our Spanish speaking and
bi-lingual employees and will be kicked off in Fall 2003. This exciting
opportunity has emphasized our value for respecting and understanding
individual differences and will serve as a means to build
partnerships and help others succeed! |
