The wind was taken from our sails when Chris Stanton, assistant judicial coordinator, died in a car accident in San Diego on March 25, 2003. With one year of experience within H&RS, Chris was ready to take on new challenges in his job with even more creativity and collaboration. Chris had been instrumental in implementing the Freshman Summer Start Program in its first year. Chris also mentored a men’s floor in Santa Cruz, called the Men’s Hall. He formed many great connections with men as well as women in our community.

With his death, many residents commented that he made a difference in their lives. Not only was he connecting through his work in the residence halls, Chris also co-led a section of a University course (INT 20) and was an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Pod leader. Chris was honored by the campus as one of the recipients of the Getman Award, and the internship for first year students will be named the Chris Stanton Intern. It is difficult to lose a person who had such tremendous energy for our unit and our work. Joyce Ester, judicial affairs coordinator, did a great job working with Chris’ family and friends to honor his memory on many different levels. We will miss Chris.
