AS EVIDENCE OF UCSB'S GROWTH as a world-class institution, housing continues to be a limited commodity. In order to help the housing situation for the academic year, UCSB, like many of the other UC campuses, has changed some of the on-campus Residence Hall rooms from traditional double occupancy to triple occupancy. This allows us to accommodate freshmen students who would not have been able to live in the residence halls.
Students had the opportunity to volunteer to be placed in a triple occupancy room when they complete their Personal & Room Assignment Information form online. Others who are assigned to triples selected a triple room as one of their preferences. However, it was necessary to assign some students to triple rooms who did not request it. We truly appreciate your cooperation in making triples successful for all involved. Even though the living quarters will be relatively tight, past experiences of the majority of students who have lived in triples have been positive.
We consider triple rooms temporary and as space becomes available in double rooms through cancellations, students will be moved out of the triple rooms into the vacant doubles. Room rates are adjusted to the double rate for the student moving and the two students remaining in the original room. Please be sure to budget for a double room because at some point during the year you could or one of your roommates could be transferred to a double room.
For further information please see our Triples Information Sheet. |

| Mandatory De-Triple Order Within Each Hall: |
| Residents in triple occupancy rooms are assigned a De-Triple Lottery Number. We take volunteers first, then we go to the De-Triple Lottery Order if there are still vacancies in doubles. Roommates may swap lottery numbers within their room; the student wishing to leave the room should take the lowest lottery number. |
