Yogurt has become one popular food. It’s a quick and delicious breakfast or an even quicker snack when you are on the go!
Nutritionally speaking yogurt is a great choice, most of the time. Let’s take a look at three facts about yogurt and a couple might be surprising.
1. It’s rich with bacteria- good bacteria that is.
 
Apparently, there is a legal definition of yogurt. In order to call a product yogurt, it must contain live and active cultures (bacteria). These bacteria must include Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles. These bacteria may sound scary, I mean clearly their names can be hard to pronounce. But research supports that these bacteria play a positive role in helping to prevent gastrointestinal infection and also boosting our immune system! Additionally, yogurt is a good source of calcium, protein and vitamin B-12. A win- win here. Yogurt tastes great and has good health benefits. 
 
2. Be careful- not all yogurt is created equal.
Not all yogurt is created equal because of the amount of fat or sugar it may contain. While all yogurt has naturally- occurring sugar from the milk a lot of brands add additional sugar to increase that sweet taste. Some brands add over 20 grams of added sugar. When selecting an option for yourself try choosing a fat-free yogurt with under 15 grams of sugar. 
 
3. Protein
Greek Style yogurt is rich in protein. In fact, it has twice the protein amount as regular yogurt. This protein can be beneficial in helping you feel fuller for longer. Greek yogurt is thick and smoother than a traditional yogurt making it a great topping for tacos or dip!
