Valentine’s Day Desserts

Dark Chocolate

Valentine’s Day is next Friday. If you are interested in making something sweet for your sweetie think about trying this recipe.
Gingered Fruit with Walnuts (I got this recipe from Fruit and Veggies More Matters-but I have made a few modifications)
2 cups diced fuji apples
2 cups diced pear
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 cup fat free plain yogurt
1 tablespoon honey
¼ teaspoon ginger powder
¼ cup chopped walnuts

Combine apples, pears and 1 tablespoon lime juice in bowl and toss to coat fruit with juice. Combine 1 tablespoon lime juice, yogurt, honey and ginger in a bowl and mix. Add yogurt to mixture of fruit and toss. Chill until ready to serve and sprinkle with walnuts just before serving.

Of course if you need your sweet tooth cured by having chocolate, try going for the dark chocolate. Cocoa which is present in chocolate and more so in dark chocolate appears to reduce risk factors for heart disease like reducing blood pressure. Which seem very fitting for this holiday celebration. Cocoa beans contain flavanols which have an antioxidant effect. Even with these benefits it is important to eat dark chocolate in moderation. I recommend choosing dark chocolate with cocoa content of 65 % of higher. And limit yourself to around 3 oz a day. I hope you have a great Valentine’s Day!
