What does Nutrition have to do with your finals? A lot! Nutrition is an important part enduring finals. A good diet during finals weeks can make a difference in your ability to ace those finals. I know time is of the essence, and who wants to waste valuable time preparing dinner? Well in this case, preparing a nutritious meal is no brainer. Here are four tips to eating smarter during finals week.
1. Eat at regular intervals. Consider 5-6 well balanced, smaller meals like toast with almond butter or a piece of cheese with hummus and veggies. This can help you curb the temptation of empty-calorie snacks.
2. Don’t Skip a Meal- this mean Breakfast. Several studies show that people perform better when they eat. And coffee and a pop tart just don’t cut it. Enjoy a bowl in instant oatmeal with a spoonful of almond butter and creamed honey and a splash of milk. Or for a really quick breakfast enjoy natural peanut butter and apples.
3. Drink More Water and Less Coffee. Yes drink water instead of coffee. A cup of coffee in the morning is fine, but drinking water throughout the day will help you stay hydrated. If you need something hot – try a caffeine free herbal tea or green tea. Too much caffeine (4 cups or more) can actually cause you more harm than benefit. Some side effects include restlessness, nervousness, upset stomach and caffeine can even prevent you from sleep.
4. Don’t forget to Move. Exercise can help relieve stress, take a walk or an early run to help you relax.
