Moderation

Today I shared a short post on our social media sites about diet and moderation. I thought I would share it here as well, because I do like the message.
 
The key to any healthy diet is moderation. Moderation is about your body’s needs and balance. You should feel satisfied at the end of a meal. Only providing your body with as much food as it needs is important. Despite what our society and media tell you, your diet should include a variety of foods like carbs, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Don’t think of certain foods as off-limits. Even our Dietitian eats dessert.
 
And that last sentence is true. I do eat dessert, and I enjoy it in moderation. Moderation can be discussed in a couple of ways when thinking about ones diet. One thought it that moderation helps you focus on the amount of food you eat. But you can also apply it to the type and kinds of food you consume. We eat to nourish our bodies and we need to meet its needs. It is important to feel full and satisfied at the end of a meal, but we want to be mindful about not overeating. This means you don't always have to clean your plate. Enjoying food in moderation also allows you to consume foods that many may think are not acceptable or off limits like dessert. It's clear that most of us enjoy induldging in certain foods that are high in calories or fat or sugar. So being mindful and eating in moderation helps us to maintain a balanced diet and hopefully a balanced lifestyle.
