You may ask yourself or wonder if our favorite morning beverage has negative health risks. Well, good news. Coffee is no longer considered a possible carcinogen due to recent research. In fact, this new research actually shows that drinking coffee may prevent cancer.
According to the IARC, the International Agency for Research on Cancer coffee was classified as “not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans.” Which really means that the IARC was not able to find evidence of coffee drinking causing human cancer. So great- that is awesome news. But let’s take it a step further and see what research is saying about coffee preventing cancer.
Recent research has shown that coffee can “reduce the total cancer incidence and it also has an inverse associated with some types of cancer.” Another review done in 2015 showed that “coffee decreased the risk of colorectal cancer in a dose-response manner.
Ok, so the facts are showing that coffee doesn’t cause cancer, but it can, in fact, help prevent it. So, are there other health benefits of consuming coffee? There have been some studies that show that coffee consumption may reduce the risk of diabetes (type 2) and high blood pressure and even depression. There may also be some benefits seen in preventing heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke and more.
So it seems like all in all coffee is a winner. Just be sure to try and consume the recommended amount- 2-3 cups of coffee.
