ABOUT RESIDENCE HALL FACILITIES & SERVICES

FACILITIES

Accommodations are available in Manzanita Village (regular attendees) and Anacapa (student attendees) Residence Halls.

Manzanita Village, a complex of 17 two- and three-story residences, is the newest residence facility at UCSB and offers rooms that open onto a main hallway with single-gender bathrooms nearby (1 bathroom per 4 residents).  Fresh towels and light cleaning service are provided daily; beds are made up with one set of linen for the duration of your stay. Some residence buildings feature a communal kitchen.

Anacapa is a more traditional two-story residence hall, offering rooms that open onto a main hallway with a large, same-gender bathroom on each hall (about 25-30 rooms per bathroom).

Manzanita Village & Anacapa both have the same features as follows:

§          Rooms furnished with one or two single beds, desks, desk chair, small chest of drawers and a closet

§          Choice of single- or double-occupancy rooms

§          Wireless internet service in rooms and common areas

§          Television lounge in each building

§          Rooms do not have telephones, televisions, radios or clocks (we do not provide "wake-up service;" bringing an alarm clock is recommended)

§          Laundry washer/dryer facilities

§          Located within a 10-15 minute walk from the conference meeting rooms and from the beach

§          All University buildings and residence halls are NON-SMOKING (including 20 feet from all building perimeters)

§          Courtesy telephones available in each hall lobby for local and credit card or calling card calls.
Our reception desk can also post phone messages on message boards in the hall lobby (you will receive your residence hall phone number in your confirmation email if you would like to give out a phone number where messages can be left for you).

CONFIRMATION

Housing registrants receive a detailed confirmation email about 2-3 weeks prior to the conference. You will receive information specific to the residence hall you are assigned to.

WHAT TO BRING

With shared bath facilities it is recommended that you bring a bathrobe and shower shoes. We are unable to provide “wake-up service,” therefore an alarm clock is recommended for your convenience. By using a telephone calling card or credit card, residents may also make long distance calls from courtesy phones in each building or in the reception desk lobby area. Individual rooms do not have telephones, televisions, radios or clocks.

DINING

Dining commons meals are included with the accommodation packages (some evenings may have specially-catered banquets or buffets instead of dinner in the dining commons). Our Dining Services are among the top-rated among colleges and universities nationwide, with the following features:

§          Assorted hot foods cooked to order

§          Vegetarian, vegan, and low-fat selections available at every meal

§          Extensive salad and condiment bar including fresh fruit

§          Fresh baked goods prepared on-site daily

PARKING

If you register for on-campus accommodation, at the time of check-in you will receive a complimentary permit for the duration of your stay. Two to three weeks before arrival, we will email you a final confirmation with a web-link to a temporary 60-minute parking permit which you can use to check-in and unload upon arrival.

To park on campus, you must have a permit 7 days per week (public prices $8 per weekday, $3 per weekend day). Be very cautious of where you park. Guests are responsible for following parking rules and for any penalties. (See links to maps at the top of this page.)

Attendees from other UC campuses:  Click for full information on UC Reciprocity visitor parking.

TRAVEL

Please consider carpooling, biking, or taking public transportation to the conference.

FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE for participants residing ON CAMPUS:

805-893-6161 (Manzanita Village)      805-893-2189 (Anacapa)
You must phone upon arrival if you wish to use our free shuttle service to UCSB from the Santa Barbara Airport or from the Santa Barbara Airbus Goleta drop-off site. The shuttle will not automatically be at either location. We will pick you up within 10-15 minutes of receiving your call, and you will be dropped off at the residence hall where you are staying. Our shuttle operates between 7am and 10pm on your arrival and departure days.

By Air: For your convenience, we recommend making flight reservations with Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) as your final destination. There are several daily flight arrivals connecting directly from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Denver. UCSB campus is a ten-minute drive from the airport.

Santa Barbara Airbus (bus shuttle service from LAX): This service provides several daily bus trips from Los Angeles International Airport to Santa Barbara (appx. $75 round-trip). Reservations are strongly recommended: (800)423-1618 (toll-free US/Canada), (805)964-7759 (outside US/Canada) or www.sbairbus.com. There are discounts for advance reservations and for parties of two or more. You will get off at the GOLETA stop and you can call for our free shuttle service from there (you will receive the appropriate phone number in your confirmation email, depending on your residence hall assignment).

By Train: Santa Barbara is served by Amtrak Train Service. Amtrak terminals are located in Santa Barbara (12–15 miles from campus) and Goleta (5 miles from campus).

NOTE: We DO NOT provide free shuttle service to/from the train stations; you will need to take a taxi (many services available; the following are just two examples: Yellow Cab at 805-965-5111 / Orange Cab at 805-964-2800).

By Car: UCSB is easily accessible from highway US-101. (Please see the map links at the top of this page).

§                         From the South: Take US-101 to the Airport/UCSB/Hwy. 217 exit (appx. 8 mi. north of downtown Santa Barbara). This expressway will take you directly into campus. As you approach the roundabout at the campus entrance, stay to the far right to exit onto Mesa Road, then follow directional signs for Manzanita Village.

§                         From the North: Take US-101 to the Storke/Glen Annie Rd. exit. Turn right on Storke Road and proceed 2 miles to El Colegio Road. Turn left on El Colegio Road and proceed about one mile, at which time you will enter the UCSB campus. Turn right at the second traffic light onto Ocean Road, and proceed to Manzanita Village at the end of Ocean Road.
