New Food Trends

Seaweed Chip, Sour Cream, Tehina

I subscribe to the Food & Nutrition Magazine. In their recent magazine release they talk about current food trends. I thought some were really cool and wanted to share some of them with you.

The first one I noticed is a new released line from Breakstone’s. It is a Greek Style Sour Cream & Nonfat Yogurt. This Greek Style Sour Cream contains 50% less fat and 40% less cholesterol as well as twice the calcium and protein of regular sour cream. Wow, what a great idea. This is a great alternative to using regular sour cream. I know it can be challenging to use low fat dairy products- they just don’t taste as good, period. But it seems like this option might just be the right alternative.

Another interesting option is called Tehina, which is a sesame butter that is made from roasted and pressed sesame seeds. The product is vegan, gluten free, and nut-free. Have I said enough nutrition buzz words to get your attention yet? Anyways a great option for those of you with a nut allergy. Consider trying this option in recipes, dips, spreads or even as an oil substitute in baking and cooking.

The last food trend I want to share is called Ocean’s Halo Seaweed Chips. The seaweed is all sustainably harvested, which is great to hear. This is a great option for a quick snack. One serving should do- as there is a fair amount of sodium per serving. Otherwise a great snack.

Try something new, you might just surprise yourself and find your next favorite food.
