2 & 2 Program

What is the 2&2 Program?

Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises offers the 2&2 plan to maximize your housing experience at a great value. Students who live in the residence halls for 2 years are guaranteed housing in the UCSB apartments for their 3rd and 4th years. In their 2nd year, continuing students can live in any of the residence halls. In years past, most of our continuing students have lived in singles, doubles, small doubles, and triples in Manzanita Village and 4-, 6-, and 8-person suites or single rooms in San Rafael Hall, but continuing students are not limited to these buildings. You may choose from any of our residence halls.

3rd and 4th year students that are eligible for 2&2 will choose from El Dorado, San Clemente Villages*, San Joaquin, Santa Ynez, Sierra Madre, Westgate, and Westwinds apartments. Rates for the residence halls vary by room type and meal plan options, while rates for the apartments vary by building and number of apartment occupants.

Continuing students that qualify for either the residence halls or University Apartments because of the 2&2 program will receive an email with more information in December. More information can also be found on our Continuing Students Application page.

Read in their own words why Gauchos recommend the 2&2 Program
"I didn't want to go through the hassle of finding an apartment and signing expensive leases. I didn’t want to be tied down to an expensive contract with expensive deposit fees. Santa Ynez Apartments were very calm and away from loud Del Playa. I would recommend the 2&2 program to other students because it’s less stressful. I lived in UCSB Housing all four years… San Nicolas, Manzanita Village, and Santa Ynez my 3rd and 4th years.” –Lupita D.

“Living in UCSB housing was the most comfortable option and it was very affordable. After living in a San Rafael suite for a year, moving into a Santa Ynez apartment was a nice transition because it had a similar setup (two shared rooms with a common living area) and maintenance was provided. It’s a perfect transition for students to prepare for living on their own in a privately owned apartment because it provides some independence (i.e. cleaning, cooking, etc.) without worrying about other responsibilities (like setting up utilities).”  -Natalie L.

“I sort of fell into the 2&2 plan without realizing it until after my second year. In my 2nd year I still wanted to live on campus and I didn't want to go through the hassle of looking for an apartment. When I started looking into where to live my 3rd year, I found it was convenient that I was guaranteed two years in the UCSB apartments that seemed cheaper and much less hassle than trying to find a place in IV or Goleta. I spent my 3rd and 4th years living in UCSB apartments because of convenience and price. It is very safe and clean, and I didn't have to worry about bugs. Living on the edge of IV was nice, and I could still go there if I wanted to. UCSB apartments are quieter than IV so it was a good study/sleep environment. There are students living around you, so you don't have to worry about knocking on a neighbor's door who is not a student. The apartments provide nice study spaces and events, along with a grand piano if I wanted to practice.” –May C.
